Like a bird migrating south every winter, Max Grover has been exploring Mexico and the Southwestern U.S. This exhibition of new acrylic on wood paintings highlights his take on south of the border customs and flavors. Loteria is a major work in the exhibition inspired by the traditional Mexican game of chance, similar to bingo, but employing colorful iconic images instead of numbers. The Grover version of Loteria uses images from the Grover lexicon: the red car, coffee pot, baseball player, airstream trailer and more. Sophisticated, playful, well-known and loved by “kids” of all ages for his witty books, watercolors, and acrylics, these new paintings showcase Max Grover’s mastery of color, composition and the visual pun.

Max Grover has several books to his credit: "The Accidental Zucchini" (1993), "Amazing and Incredible Counting Stories" (1995), "Circles and Squares Everywhere" (1996), "Max's Wacky Taxi Day" (1998), as well as well-known tales and poems that he has made colorful and contemporary.
