Whatever the take on still life, we are drawn to it. The intimacy, the stillness, the close view of a moment in time; it is a genre that is still contemporary and eternal. This exhibition explores the comparisons and contrasts of ideas, compositions, and mediums by established and emerging artists. Contrast Wolfgang Tillmanns photograph of strewn clothing with compositions of eclectic detritus by Vik Muniz. Compare David Rosenak’s paintings in shades of grays to McDermott & McGough’s somber-toned photogravures. Contrast the carefully staged and richly colored images of photographer Laura Letinsky with Warhol's sepia toned "After the Party" screenprint. The results are not banal.
